PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing an optical fiber base material by which the rate of deposition of fine glass particles is increased in a deposition process. CONSTITUTION:When an optical fiber base material is produced, gaseous helium is used as sealling gas in a burner for forming fine glass particles. By the high heat conductivity of the gaseous helium, smooth diffusion is carried out, the rate of deposition of fine glass particles is increased and deposition time is shortened. The working efficiency is therefore enhanced. |
