摘要 PURPOSE:To make the element exhibit an optical function, such as low-pass filter and to reduce the weight of the element so as to have a lower weight, volumetric rate, cost and light scattering by specifying the pretilt angle and spacing of oriented films and a liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal optical low-pass filter 21 is formed with oriented films 4 respectively on the opposite surfaces of transparent glass substrates 2 and 2 facing each other and is injected with a liquid crystal 22 within a gap 20 between glass substrates 2 and 2 on the respective oriented film 4 sides. This liquid crystal 22 consists of a nematic liquid crystal or chiral nematic liquid crystal forming part at the use temp. The pretilt angle alpha of the oriented films 4 subjected to a rubbing treatment in directions shown in Fig. and the liquid crystal 22 is specified to a 9 to 81 deg. range and the length (gap length) d of the gap 20 to 10 to 200mum. The control of the pretilt and alphaof the liquid crystal 22 is mainly executed by selecting the kinds and materials of the oriented films 4 and subjecting the oriented films to the rubbing treatment.
