The brake lever is mounted on a handlebar of a bicycle. A pivot axis (4) of the brake lever body is extended at a right angle to the axis (C) of a handlebar inserting bore (5) in a bracket (2). Thus the centre (O) of pivotal movement of the brake lever and the axis of the handlebar come closer to each other.
