Method and installation for the preparation of packaging materials containing fibres, in particular of so-called Tetra-Packs, the packaging surface first being roughened. The fibres are next broken down in a container (4) which is filled with water. Finally, the fibres are separated out from the remaining components of the packaging by means of tumbling and finally separated. The method can be carried out in a particularly advantageous manner by using a novel tumbling tube (61). Within the tumbling tube (61), a flexible tube (62) is arranged continuously coaxially in such a manner that an annular space (63) is formed between the inner wall of the tumbling tube (61) and the tube (62). The annular space (63) can be repeatedly cyclically exposed to compressed air via valves (65). The water, with the components of the packaging dispersed therein, is fed through the interior of the tube (62). During the passage through the tube (62), the components of the packaging are tumbled many times as a result of the contraction of the tube (62). By this means, the fibrous components can be separated carefully and without mechanical damage from the composite material.
