The depot tablet provided here makes it possible to control efficiently and continuously the rate of release of a pharmaceutically active ingredient. The basic depot ingredient contained in the depot tablet contains hydroxypropylmethylcellulose particles which have a degree of methoxy group substitution of from 19 to 30% by weight and a degree of hydroxypropoxy group substitution of from 4 to 12% by weight. The particle size of these particles is not less than 100 mesh and the hydroxypropylmethylcellulose particles have an apparent density of not more than 0.35 mg/ml.
