Method and device for joining wooden components by means of a junction plate

In order to drill junction-plate connections in wooden components, it is proposed that the junction plates (1), which are composed of metal, be drilled through the wooden components (3) in one operation using a stepped twist drill (13). The stepped twist drill (13) has first cutting edges which pilot-drill the junction plate (1), whereas a thicker shank portion of the stepped twist drill (13) is guided in the wooden component (3) and removes metal chips without drill-hole damage on the wooden component (3). On widening the drill holes in the junction plate (1), comparatively narrow metal chips are produced which, in turn, can be removed without any problems through the chip-removing grooves of the thicker shank portion of the stepped twist drill (13). Preferably, multi-spindle drilling machines (31) are employed to drill-hole patterns. In order to avoid vibrations upon insertion of the rod dowels (7) which connect the junction plate (1) to the wooden components (3), these rod dowels are expediently driven in by hydraulic pressure tools. <IMAGE>
