An article made of coated carbon includes an article made of carbon, an intermediate coating forming a glass and an external refractory coating on the intermediate coating. A converted porous layer is formed by attacking and reacting the article made of carbon with boron oxide, so that the resulting layer contains interstices in mutual communication and boron carbide formed by the reaction of boron oxide with the article made of carbon. A coating forming a glass, selected from silicon nitride, silicon oxynitride and mixtures thereof is then applied onto the converted layer. An external refractory coating is then preferably applied onto the coating forming a glass. |
