Electronic anti-theft device for motor vehicles

A device for protecting against the unauthorised use of a motor vehicle is provided, the said vehicle having a drive system which is controlled by an onboard computer. The device comprises a chipcard with a microprocessor and a chipcard reader and writer which is connected to the onboard computer. The microprocessor processes information received from the chipcard reader and writer to form operational data for starting the motor vehicle and supplies the said data via the chipcard reader and writer to the onboard computer so that the motor vehicle can be started. The advantages of the invention lie in increased protection against the motor vehicle being stolen.
