Aqueous compositions for hair treatment with a content of anionic, zwitterionic, amphoteric or nonionic surfactants contain as additive to improve the combability of the hair an alkyl sulphate, which is branched in position 2, of the formula I R<1>-CHR<2>-CH2-OSO3<(-)> A<(+)> in which R<1> is a linear alkyl group with 8-12 C atoms and R<2> is a linear alkyl group with 12-16 C atoms and A<(+)> is an alkali metal, magnesium, ammonium or mono-, di- or trialkanolammonium ion. Shampoos and hair rinses preferably contain up to 5 % by weight of this additive.
