Process for the preparation of polysuccinimide and polyaspartic acid

Polysuccinimide and polyaspartic acid are prepared by polymerising maleic anhydride, ammonia and water or maleic or fumaric acid derivatives as such or dissolved in solvents in a twin-screw extruder. The resultant polysuccinimide can be converted into polyaspartic acid and polyasparatic acid salts by hydrolysis.
