The invention concerns a method of removing dust from flue gases by means of an electrostatic filter (E). The filter (E) is located in the flue-gas flow (R), and a d.c. voltage (U) is applied across the filter to ionise the dust particles flowing through it. In order to optimize the operation of the filter, from both the environmental and the economical point of view, the invention calls for the dust concentration to be continuously measured at the filter outlet, upstream of the desulphurisation unit. An upper limit (Solmax) and a lower limit (Solmin) are set for the dust concentration, and process parameters previously determined experimentally by a comparator (V) from a memory (S) to optimize the process as regards the degree of dust removal and efficiency are derived as signals to control the filter.
