PURPOSE:To protect the head of a passenger by forming an air bag cover in the same shape as that of a rear pillar, and disposing a shield member, opened during development of an air bag body, to the front part of the air bag cover. CONSTITUTION:When it is detected that a side collision occurs to a door 14 during running or a stop in a state that a passenger seats at a rear seat 1 with his head against a pillow 13, an air bag device 5 is operated. Gas generated by a gas generator 7 is instantaneously fed to the interior of an air bag body 9 through a gas injection nozzle 7a, and an air bag body 9 is instantaneously brought into a development state in a given shape. In this case, the development direction of the air bag body 9 of the gas generator 7, i.e., an amount of gas injected to a front, is set to a value higher than that of other part. Instantaneous development of the air bag body 9, crushing through a shield member 10c of an air bag cover 10, to the door glass 14a side of the air bag body 9 can be executed. This constitution reliably protects the head part of a passenger. |
