The invention relates to a method for manufacturing grain-oriented electric sheets (magnetic sheet steel. electric sheet steel) having a finished strip thickness in the range of from 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm from slabs having the alloy composition specified in patent claim 1. The invention is distinguished by the slabs, in addition to manganese and copper, having an increased S and a reduced Al content, the slabs, prior to hot- rolling, being heated to a lower temperature and being held at this temperature for a sufficiently long time, said temperature being lower than the dissolution temperature for the manganese sulphides and higher than the dissolution temperature for the copper sulphides, the slabs then, if required, first being hot-roughed (hot-cogged) and then being finish-rolled at a lowered finishing temperature, preferably in the range of from 900 C to 980 C, to the hot-strip final gauge, followed by hot strip annealing, preferably in the range of from 950 C to 1100 C. After single- or two-stage cold rolling down to the finished strip thickness (strip-gauge), recrystallization annealing known per se with simultaneous decarburisation, application of a release agent (parting agent), high-temperature annealing and final annealing with an insulating coating, grain-oriented electric sheets are obtained. Compared to the prior art (RGO and HGO) these sheets (TGO), with the same magnetic inductance, have improved hysteresis and eddy current losses.
