A pneumatic tire (1) for a passenger car includes a toroidal carcass (4) anchored by a pair of beads (5) and a belt (B) made of laminated strips. The strips have a number of reinforcing elements of cords or filaments surrounding a crown of the toroidal carcass and are coated with a high molecular weight material having a modulus of elasticity less than that of the reinforcing elements. The belt is of a laminated construction of a first strip (2) and a second strip (3 ) of a single layer. The first strip has wave-shaped or zigzag reinforcing elements (6) arranged side by side and generally in parallel with an equatorial plane of the tire, while the second strip has reinforcing elements (7) arranged in parallel with each other at angles of 15 DEG -75 DEG , preferably 35 DEG -60 DEG with respect to the equatorial plane.
