PURPOSE:To obtain a polysilane composition which has a high three-dimensional nonlinear optical coefficient, a high nonlinear response speed, and excellent nonlinear optical properties by mixing a specific polysilane with specific fine particles. CONSTITUTION:A polysilane which has repeating units represented by the formula [wherein R<1> and R<2> each is H, a 1-24C (substituted) alkyl, a 6-24C (substituted) aryl, or a 7-24C (substituted) aralkyl, provided that at least either of the R<1> groups and the R<2> groups preferably are partly replaced with a hydrophilic group having one or more members selected from hydroxy, amino, carboxy, an ether bond, an amide bond, an ester bond, a carbamate bond, and a carbonate bond] and has a weight--average mol.wt. of preferably 5,000-1,000,000 is mixed with fine particles of at least one substance selected from conductors and semiconductors which particles preferably have diameters of 10-500 angstroms (e.g. gold particles).
