PURPOSE:To make it possible to continuously run a highly accurate Hall motor, used as a spindle motor, even in the case of faults of its Hall element by using counterelectromotive force as rotation control information to control the motor rotation. CONSTITUTION:The title disk drive uses a direct current motor as a spindle motor 10, which is therein provided with a Hall element HA. The rotation is controlled by a MPU 13 for motor control using the output of the Hall element HA as rotation control information. The disk drive also includes a counter electromotive force detecting circuit 16 for detecting the counterelectromotive force of the motor coil. The motor control MPU 13 is provided with a switching section 19, which selects the output of the Hall element when it is normal and the counterelectromotive force signal from the counter electromotive force detecting circuit 16 when the Hall element HA is anomalous. If the Hall element HA is anomalous condition, as mentioned above, the counterelectromotive force signal is used for rotation control information instead of the output of the Hall element, and the control of the spindle motor 10 rotation is thereby feasible. |
