Device (1) for grasping a container (2) such as, especially, a rubbish bin which has on the one hand an articulated bottom (3) to allow the container to be emptied, a rod (5), the free end of which has a first handling ring (eye) (6), and on the other hand at least one second lifting ring (8). According to the invention, it includes grasping means (9) acting on two independent chains (10, 11), each free end of which is equipped with a hook (12; 41, 13; 43) intended to become housed with the said rings (6, 8) which interact with means for allowing a relative movement of the first ring (6) with respect to the second ring (8) in order, on the one hand, to lift and to handle the container and, on the other hand, to open the bottom (3) of the container. <IMAGE>
