PURPOSE:To correctly identify human's skin on a picture by detecting tone candidates of a skin area by extracting the picture elements of a skin color and determining the skin area from its candidates. CONSTITUTION:A skin color picture element detector 3 successively reads out the data of the lumimance L, hue H and chroma C of each picture element from a frame memory 2, judges whether the data satisfies a prescribed skin color condition or not and deletes a picture element disabled to satisfy the condition from the memory 2. A skin color candidate detector 4 groups skin color picture elements mutually connected in the memory 2 as one area to find out a candidate of a skin area. A skin area detector 6 detects an area supposed to practically correspond to a human's skin out of skin area candidates by using a skin index expressing the likeness of skin and sends a control signal cmtll indicating the detected result to a skin image judging device 7. Consequently, the device 7 judges that input picture is a skin picture including the skin area and outputs '1' e.g. as a judged result. |
