The invention relates to a method, and an electronic device, for implementing this method, consisting of an assembly for medical use which makes it possible non-traumatically to measure the propagation time of the pulse wave between two points in a surface artery, in humans or in animals. Two transducers (one proximal, the other distal) are positioned on the path of the artery in question. Passage of the pulse wave under the proximal transducer triggers an electronic clock which is stopped by passage of this wave under the distal transducer. The result represents the time (in milliseconds) taken by this wave to cover the distance between the two transducers. This time (in metres per second) is calculated using software connected to an alphanumeric printer which transcribes this calculation as well as the two curves of the pulse wave. <IMAGE>
