PURPOSE:To form a variable power picture having high quality while suppressing the increment of a storage area to be used for variable power processing. CONSTITUTION:When the number of picture elements to be samplied is Q= 3 in the case of magnifying a picture inputted by a process S11 to 1.8 times (=9/5), a temporary magnification ratio P becomes 5.4 based upon an equation P=9/5XQ (process S12). In the case of processing an input picture in each five picture elements, three picture elements out of the five are magnified to 5 times and the remaining two picture elements are magnified to (P+1) times, i.e., 6 times (process S13). Subsampling is executed in accordance with the sampling number Q to obtain a final variable power picture (1.8-times picture of the original picture) (process S14). |
