PURPOSE:To efficiently and finely determine the width and the number of sound image localization areas. CONSTITUTION:Sound image localization areas (i)-(v) are set precisely around the middle of a display screen 1 in the horizontal direction and roughly toward left/right ends. A cross reference table (figure B) between a center horizontal coordinate (x) of picture windows Vj (j=1-3) and a sound image localization area (i) to which the coordinate (x) belongs is stored in advance in a memory of a picture display section 4. A sound image localization area control section receives the center horizontal coordinate (x) of each picture window Vj to be displayed from the picture display section 4 and decides a relevant sound image localization area (i) based on the cross reference table and inputs the Vj and the corresponding (i) to a voice output processing section 7. The voice output processing section 7 distributes a voice input signal Aj attended with the picture of the picture windows Vj (j=1-3) to left and right speakers 2, 3 in response to the speaker output ratio specific to the corresponding sound image localization area (i).
