PURPOSE:To provide an R-Fe-C-N intermetallic compound magnetic material powder which is composed of rare-earth elements (designated as R in the following) excluding La, of Fe and of C and to provide its manufacturing method. CONSTITUTION:An R2+kFe17Cy (where 0<=y<=1 and 0.01<k<1.0) ingot is homogenized, its temperature is raised from room temperature up to 150 to 500 deg.C in a hydrogen atmosphere as required, the temperature is held, a treatment to return the ingot to room temperature is repeated, the temperature of the treated ingot is raised and held in a hydrogen atmosphere, and a hydrogen occlusion treatment to occlude hydrogen is executed to the ingot. In succession, in the manufacturing method of an R-Fe-C- N intermetallic compound magnetic material powder, the ingot is held in a vacuum atmosphere of the same temperature, a dehydrogenation treatment which discharges hydrogen forcibly from the hydrogen-occluded ingot is executed, and a carbonitriding treatment is executed to a crushed powder which is obtained by cooling and crushing the ingot, A magnetic material powder which is obtained by the manufacturing method is provided with an average particle size of 10 to 200mum, and it is composed mainly of the single-crystal powder of an Sm2Fe17(CN)x (where x>0) intermetallic compound. |
