PURPOSE:To obtain the data base retrieving method which can hold a retrieval result even when the capacity of the auxiliary storage device of a client-side computer is reduced. CONSTITUTION:In a server-side computer 2, a routine which receives a data base operation request from the client-side computer 1, stores the result in a server-side auxiliary storage device 3 after the execution of the request, and sends the status of the result back to the client-side computer 1 is provided. In the client-side computer 1, a routine which sends and receives the data base operation request and the status of the result to and from the server-side computer 2 is provided. Further, part of the auxiliary storage device 3 that the server-side computer 2 has can be used like the auxiliary storage device of the client-side computer 1.
