A device is intended for supporting the heart and/or for replacing myocardial power. For this purpose, electromagnets, which attract and repel each other with opposed poles, are located at least in one ventricle. They are connected to the opposite ventricular walls or they are provided only on the inserted catheters and bring about a pumping action when they attract or repel each other. This pumping action supports or replaces the natural movement of the heart. Depending on the requirements, the number of magnets and the arrangement of the magnets can be varied. The electromagnets are connected to a control unit via which they can be appropriately activated. The magnets are preferably introduced via a catheter. Current can be supplied via a wire through a leg vein or a vena cava or artery leading into the heart, or by inductive coupling.
