A physically effective magnitude, e.g. an electrostatic capacitance, is generated by an accelerometer element (1) on the basis of an acceleration. A downstream circuit (20, 20A) generating an alternating signal, such as, for example, a capacitance/frequency converter which is realised by means of ring oscillators, for example, inverts the physically effective magnitude into an alternating signal ((1), (3)), which represents the acceleration. The accelerometer element (1) is part of the ring oscillator (20, 20A) as one of its components, and therefore determines the characteristics of the output signal ((1), (3)) of the converter.
