With a linkage for positioning an object, in particular a luminaire head, in a multiplicity of positions with an object-supporting rod, a swivelling (pivoting) parallel linkage arranged at one end of the object-supporting rod and a counterweight (balance weight, counterbalance) in the region of the other end of the parallel linkage on a counterweight-supporting rod, the parallel linkage being mounted so as to be able to swivel at least in one plane with respect to a fixed point, it is intended to create a solution by means of which a comprehensive compensation of the system weight is possible without further auxiliary means. This is achieved in that the swivelling point of the linkage (1) is provided at the centre between the parallel rods (4a, 4b) on an additional transverse rod (7) which is mounted thereon in a pivotable (hinged) manner, this transverse rod (7) being arranged parallel to the object-supporting rod (2) and to the counterweight-supporting rod (5).
