The area of application of existing diaphragm arrangements can be expanded to virtually unlimited pressures by using diaphragm supports. In these arrangements, the diaphragms cannot be used as structural components, having only the function of sealing. By sealing the valve spindle with a diaphragm support, the internal energy of the medium can be used to open or close it automatically. This arrangement extends the limits of use of all diaphragm pumps and pressure regulators to virtually unlimited high pressures. In most equipment and machines, the diaphragm-support arrangements can fully replace steel springs. The desired characteristics can thus be modulated to an even greater extent.
