An umbrella which emits a flashing light comprises a handle (30) connected to a hollow rod (40) which is itself connected to an upper tube. An upper collar at the upper end of the rod has a plurality of ribs (50) pivotally extending therefrom, with a light emitting diode (LED) (70) at the end (53) of each rib. The handle has a circuit board (20) and a battery (21) therein to provide electrical pulses. A button switch on the handle controls an ON/OFF switch on the circuit board. Electrical lines extend from the circuit board to a corresponding LED, to transmit electrical pulses from the circuit hoard to the LEDs and cause them to flash. <IMAGE>
