PURPOSE:To produce a refractory excel lent in thermal shock resistance, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength by employing a specific thermosetting resin, when the refractory is produced from a resin and an aggregate comprising one or more kinds of refractory inorganic materials. CONSTITUTION:An aggregate comprising one or more kinds of refractory inorganic materials and a powdery thermosetting resin having phenol groups bound to 20 or more methylene groups are kneaded with each other, molded and subsequently cured or baked. When the molded product is baked, the added powdery thermosetting resin is wholly not melted, is bound to an adjacent filler or the adjacent thermosetting resin, while leaving a part of the spherical skeletons. The bound parts and particle boundaries exist in the left thermosetting resin. The particle boundaries improve spalling resistance as pores, and further substantially prevent the transfer of the thermosetting resin due to the gravity when cured, give carbon bonds where the thermosetting resin is homogeneously cured, and thereby improve the mechanical strength of the produced refractory. The thermosetting resin is preferably a phenol resin, and the temperature for the curing treatment is preferably 200-400 deg.C. |
