PURPOSE:To produce zirconia powder having a narrow particle size distribution and little unevenness in strength in a short time by pulverizing calcined powder of zirconium hydroxide by means of a pulverizer with zirconia balls so that a prescribed average particle diameter is attained. CONSTITUTION:Zirconium hydroxide powder having 50-60mum average particle diameter is calcined at 700-1,200 deg.C and water is added to the calcined powder having about 100mum average particle diameter to prepare a slurry (A). The powder in the slurry A is crushed with balls having 3-10mm diameter to prepare a slurry (B) contg. particles having 2-10mum average particle diameter. The particles in the slurry B are wet-pulverized by means of a medium stirring type pulverizer, etc., with balls having 0.3-2mm diameter to prepare a slurry (C) contg. particles having <=1mum average particle diameter. The slurry C is dried by means of a spray drier, etc., to produce the objective zirconia powder. |
