PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst component which gives an olefin polymer having a high molecular weight, relatively wide molecular weight distribution ash narrow composition distribution and excellent particle properties. CONSTITUTION:A solid catalyst component consisting of the following compounds brought into contact with each other: a compound (1) represented by the general formula Me<1>R<1>nX<1>4-n (wherein X<1> is a halogen atom; Me<1> is Zr, Ti or Hf; and 0<=n<=4); a compound (2) represented by the general formula Me<2>R<2>mX<2>z-m (wherein X<2> is a halogen atom; Me<2> is a group I, II or III element; z is the valence of Me<2>; and 0<m<=3); an organic cyclic compound (3) having at least two conjugated double bonds; and a silicon or aluminum oxide (4) having a mean particle diameter of 20-150mum, a specific surface of 150-600m<2>/g, a pore volume of 0.3-2.0cm<3>/g, an apparent specific gravity of at least 0.32, and a degree of ultrasonic breakdown of at most 30%.
