<p>PURPOSE: To clear a jam of a copy sheet in jam clearance in a copying machine by actuating a sheet drive mechanism for a specified time according to the actuation error and position corresponding to the position of the copy sheet relative to a zone, and accessing it in the single zone, in accordance with the position and degree of restraint of the copy sheet. CONSTITUTION: Sensors 79, 81, 83 are provided to monitor passage of each copy sheet and to detect occurrence of a jam. A major drive mechanism drive part in which a jam can be cleared by time adjustment of a single drive mechanism is parted to zones 5-8, for example, to process the jam. For example, when a jam occurs in the zone 6, a jam sheet is removed in the zone 6 when the copy sheet can be cleared in the zone 6, and when the front edge of a succeeding sheet is not in the zone 6. When the front edge of the succeeding sheet is within the zone 6, the time until the succeeding sheet is moved to a removing position in the zone 6, and the machine is driven for the time when it is smaller than a time until a preceding sheet is sent to the zone 7. The back edge of the preceding sheet and the front edge of the succeeding sheet are thus both within the zone 6, thereby both sheets are removed in the zone 6.</p> |
