PURPOSE:To obtain the diagnostic agent, composed of a fluorescent compound such as tetrapyrrolecarboxylic acids being free from toxicity, excellent in photodiagnosis and phototherapy and useful for chronic articular rheumatism, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective diagnostic agent and/or therapeutic agent are composed of one or more fluorescent compounds selected from the group consisting of tetrapyrrolecarboxylic acids, expressed by the formula (R1 is methyl, H or OH; R2 is H, vinyl, ethyl, acetyl, etc.; R3 is methyl, H or OH; R4 is H, vinyl, ethyl, etc.; R5 is methyl; R6 is H, CH2CH2CO2H, CO2H, etc.; R7 is CH2CH2CO2H, H, etc.; R8 is methyl or H; R9 is H, COOH, CH2COOH, etc.) and having one or more carboxyl groups or the corresponding di- or tetrahydrotertrapyrrolecarboxylic acids, mono-, di- or polyamides of the tetrapyrrolecarboxylic acid with aminomono- or dicarboxylic acids and salts thereof. Furthermore, the dose of the compounds is preferably 1-5mg/kg (based on the living body weight) in the case of diagnosis.
