AUTOMATIC DISPLAY DEVICE OF AUXILIARY VIDEO INFORMATION IN CASE OF AUDIO-MUTE

PURPOSE: To automatically control the auxiliary video information display in accordance with the status of muting by interlocking an audio muting mechanism and a closed caption display device with each other. CONSTITUTION: A decoding/control unit 140 generates signals CCEN and MUTE in accordance with user's input, and an audio switch 160 is operated by the signal MUTE to ground the audio output and the output is inhibited. An on- screen display IDS processor 120 is operated by the signal CCEN to display a video signal or an auxiliary information signal decoded by a decoder 110. A closed caption mode with muting is automatically set in the case of muting, and closed caption display is automatically inhibited when muting is inhibited. Thus, auxiliary video information display is automatically controlled in accordance with user's request.
