PURPOSE:To limit the action of an electronic shutter in a part of an image pickup area and to attain the effective use of the electronic shutter function. CONSTITUTION:A CCD 10 including divided image pickup areas D1, D2 and D3 is provided, together with the movement detecting circuits 23A, 23B and 23C, an electronic shutter command circuit 24 which designates one of areas D1-D3 based on detection of a moving state, and a CCD driving circuit 25 which drives an electronic shutter in the designated area only and does not drive the electronic shutter in other areas. Thus the action of the electronic shutter is limited only in the desired one of image pickup areas. If the moving states are detected in plural areas, the electronic shutter can be driven in all areas or the center area.
