PURPOSE: To provide a digital multi-resolution transmission system suitable for discrimination of a first low resolution level by detection of a symbol group and discrimination of at least a second high resolution level by detection of a symbol in the symbol group. CONSTITUTION: In this system, a transmitter 5 compirses means 14, 16, and 18 for difference modulation of a symbol group assigned to a low resolution level, and a receiver 6 comprises a means 20, which detects a symbol group subjected to difference modulation, and a means which generates a symbol assigned to the low resolution level. In a preferable example, the detection means 20 of the receiver 6 can detect a symbol assigned to a high resolution level. This system can be used for digital transmission of a two-resolution television signal. |
