PURPOSE:To stably maintain satisfactory electrostatic charge kickoff characteristics over a long period of time and to prevent the scattering of a toner and fogging by incorporating a magnesium compd. into the resin coating layer of a resin coated carrier. CONSTITUTION:This developer consists of a toner and a resin coated carrier obtd. by forming resin coating layers on the surfaces of core material particles. The resin coating layers contain at least one kind of magnesium compd. selected among magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate. Each of these magnesium compds. preferably has a single crystal structure grown by a vapor phase reaction, is chemically active and has high positive chargeability (negative charge imparting property) and excellent electrostatic charge rising characteristics.
