PURPOSE:To finely and easily binarize input pictures in which shadows, gradation and lines coexist. CONSTITUTION:The input pictures are inputted (step 31) and distribution value pictures corresponding to the input pictures are generated by a distribution filter (step 33). The distribution filter obtains the distribution of the gradation values of the fixed number of picture elements present near a point (the picture element) under consideration and outputs an obtained distribution value as a featured value for the point under consideration. Thereafter, a simple binarization processing (by a threshold value) is performed on the distribution value pictures (step 37). |
