The invention relates to a method for correcting for scale deposit on equipment employed in circulating water systems such as heat exchangers or boilers and an apparatus to effect the method. The method comprises monitoring heat transfer rate or heat transfer resistance and adjusting dosage of scale inhibitor to the circulating water in response to the monitored values to reduce or prevent scale formation.
