A high-pressure installation for production of highly-compressed air comprises an oil-lubricated screw compressor (1), at least one downstream high-pressure piston compressor (2) and coolers (3) behind the compressors (1, 2). Branching off behind the last compressor (2) is a bypass duct (15) in which one or more expansion valves (16) are arranged and which is connected to the inlet of the screw compressor (1). By way of this bypass duct (15) highly compressed air is, for the reduction of condensation of water vapour and for expulsion of water vapour condensate from the screw compressor lubricating oil, expanded for a determined time during start up and shutdown of the screw compressor (1) and fed back to the inlet of the screw compressor (1) for recompression. <IMAGE>
