IMPROVED SHIFTING SPANNER

A shifting spanner (10) of the type which includes opposing relatively moveable jaws (14, 16) adapted to engage edge surfaces of a nut (30) characterised by at least one opposing triangular-shaped recesses (24, 26) in the faces of the jaws. The shifting spanner (10) can comprise opposed first and second jaws (14, 16); each of the first and second jaws including a working face (42, 43) adapted to lie in substantially parallel, opposed relationship one to the other; the spanner further including interconnecting means (40) mechanically interconnecting ends of the first and second jaws so as to define a working volume therebetween which is adjustable by actuation of the interconnecting means so as to cause the working faces to move towards or away from each other; the improvement comprising at least a working face of one of the first or second jaws including a pair of inclined plane surfaces (24a, 24b) intersecting at an included angle A; the inclined surfaces inclined so as to substantially follow adjacent edge surfaces of a corner of a hexagonal nut so as to obtain a purchase on the corner when the working faces are urged one towards the other by operation of the interconnecting means with the nut located therebetween.
