The invention presented relates to a method and apparatuses for heating and laying surface-covering materials. The invention relates to a method of heating materials in the form of rolled sheeting (e.g. bitumen) and applying them onto a surface which is to be sealed. Furthermore, the invention contains apparatuses by means of which the method can be implemented. In contrast with the method which is conventional at the moment - heating takes place by way of the open flame of a gas burner; a number of workers are needed to carry out the work - the invention offers considerable advantages. By utilising radiant heat instead of an open flame, more efficient utilisation of the energy sources present is achieved and a more environmentally friendly mode of working is guaranteed. In addition, the necessary heat can be regulated by the radiant heaters and adapted in optimum fashion to the laying operation. By virtue of a motorised version of the invention, the laying of surface-covering materials may, furthermore, be carried out in a more controlled and efficient manner than is possible with the conventional methods. In the case of a motorised version, the precisely controllable forwards movement of the vehicle - which carries all the materials necessary for laying - guarantees uniform unrolling of the covering material which is to be laid.
