A reliability-controlled data detection process is disclosed for TDMA-data bursts with a central test sequence in order to determine the characteristic parameters of the transmission channel. The process is characterized in that the data sections on both sides of the test sequence are subdivided into N sectors Ai, i = +/-1,... , +/-N, having each M signal scanning values. In the kth processing step, sectors Ai-, -N </= i<-> </= -1, and Ai+, +1 </= i<+> </= +N are detected, appropriate reliability measures LAMBDA i- and LAMBDA i+ are determined for the detection results and the detection result of the sector whose reliability measure has the smallest value is again rejected if until then processing of all sectors A-1,... , Ai-+1 and A+1,... , Ai+-1 has been concluded.
