Each connection to the ancillary cylinders within the cylinder head, or via the exhaust manifold, is interrupted by a direct line from the valve to the turbine. The attained energy yield is used to increase the air vol. in the combustion chamber by increased charge for reducing the NOx emission. The piston power, induced during the expansion stroke, is adjusted below that permitted by the supplied air vol.to obtain the required, reduced NOx values. The exhaust manifold cross-section may be smaller than the valve through flow surface, with the cross-sectional widening only at the turbine gas inlet.
