In the case of a switch for connecting electrical contacts (13, 14) by means of a contact element (11) which can be operated by means of a slide (3), the contact element (11) is formed by means of a plate spring (12), which is arranged on a carrier (10), and an intermediate piece (21) is fitted on the slide (3), in order to operate the contact element (11). This intermediate piece (21) is held displaceably on the slide in order to compensate for any overtravel of the slide (3) with respect to its adjustment direction. This design results in it being possible to compensate for any overtravel of the slide (3) without any difficulties, and in the contacts (13, 14) not being mechanically stressed by the contact element, so that a long service life is achieved. <IMAGE>
