<p>A method and apparatus for producing a fibre-optic cable comprising a tube housing the fibres. According to the method, (a) optical fibres (4) are unwound from one or more spools (12); (b) the fibres (4) are fed into an extrusion head (14) which extrudes a viscous (FV) sheathing material (M) onto said fibre (4); (c) the sheathing material (M) is directly shaped at the outlet of the extrusion head (14), prior to and during the sheathing of said fibres (4), into its final geometric shape (FS), which corresponds to that of the solid tube (2); (d) the cable (1) consisting of the tube (2) and the fibres (4) is wound around a first drive roller (42); and (e) the cable (1) is cooled and fed through a second drive roller assembly (46) while maintaining a constant tension between said drive rollers (42, 46).</p> |
