The invention relates to a servicing device (16) patrolling along an open-end spinning machine (1). The servicing device designed as a piecing unit (16) has devices for the automatic elimination of thread breaks during the bobbin run, a device for exchanging finished cross-wound bobbins for empty tubes and an auxiliary-thread transport device (34) for the provision and disposal of an auxiliary thread (45) used for piecing. The auxiliary-thread transport device (34) has a delivery tube (37) which can be positioned between different working positions. In a first working position (I), the transfer of the auxiliary thread (45) delivered by the auxiliary-thread transport device (34) to the thread-locating nozzle (21) of the piecing unit (16) takes place. In a further working position (II) of the delivery tube (37), the piecing cycle is initiated and the auxiliary thread is pieced onto the individual fibres fed into the spinning rotor. In a working position (III), the auxiliary thread and the piecer are cut out and the new thread is presented to an empty tube (10) held in the bobbin creel (9). <IMAGE>
