For a slide (1) which can be moved along a guide (2) by means of a tension element (4) and is under the effect of the force of gravity, a fall brake is proposed in which a brake lever (7) is pivotably arranged on the end face of the slide (1) facing the tension element (4), which brake lever (7) has a guide eye (9), which either has the tension element (4) passing through it, in which case the axis of the tension element (4) and that of the guide eye (9) enclose an acute angle in such a way that the centre axis of the eye (9) is swivelled in the direction of the tangent to the path of movement of the brake lever (7), and the tension element (4) bears in each case in the area of the outlet opening against points on the brake lever (7) which are radially opposite one another, and the brake lever (7) encloses the guide (2) from the inside or outside with its end opposite the pivot axis and is under the action of a force in the opening direction, or has the guide (2) passing through it and is under the action of a force in the opening direction, and a release lever is pressed against the tension element (4) via an elastic force and thereby blocks the brake lever (7) in such a way that the brake lever (7) is released when the release lever moves in the direction of the tension element (4). <IMAGE>
