A process for mechanically permanently pleating materials in which a material web is periodically pleated bay oscillating pleating blades (22, 24). The pleat made is taken to the pinch of a calender (30) and fixed by heating at least one calender roller (32, 34) and by being taken through the roller pinch. The process hereby is such that the material web which remains unpleated is laid on a moving conveying surface (19) of a transfer conveyor (10) and taken on the conveyor surface (19) to the immediate vicinity of the pleating blades (22, 24). The movement of the conveying surface (19) is matched in at least the region of movement of the pleating blades (22, 24) nearest said blades (22, 24) in such a way that the material web is taken to the pinch on the conveying surface (19) when the closed pleating blades (22, 24) are advanced at the same speed as the pleating blades (22, 24) and transferred to the pleating blades (22, 24) with no tension. |
