A hand held skate blade sharpening tool (10) has a rotatable sharpening stone (27) retained within a channel-shaped body member (13). Removable pins (31) mounted on the body are located adjacent the outer ends of the stone (27) to limit longitudinal movement of the stone (27) within a channel (21) of the body member (13). The body member (13) has an access slot (19) extending radially from the stone (27). Elongated guides (25, 26) projecting upwardly adjacent the slot (19) are transversely spaced at a distance substantially the same as the width of the skate blade to guide and limit lateral movement of the blade within the slot (19). A transverse groove (22) interrupting the slot (19) and guides (25, 26) is open to the channel (21) exposing the stone (27). This enables the stone (27) to be manually rotated within the channel (21) to rotate an unused sharpening surface into alignment with the slot (19). |
